External pipping wrong end ?

I'm replying to this thread because I am curious what others with more experience would say.

I am not an expert, but have two thoughts:

1.) If the beak is just out, its lungs aren't ready yet, and the egg yolk likely hasn't been absorbed yet.

2.) What if that brown stuff is some kind of an infection

3.) Could it be shrink-wrapped since the incubator has been opened.

Hmmmm. . I would keep checking this thread, and leave the chick alone for a bit. If its beak is recently out, it needs time, regardless.
I think you were right about the shrink wrapped.
 
This was a very difficult situation, and I don't think you could have helped the duckling. :hugs

If there was blood, it likely pipped through a vein - pipping in the wrong place increases the risk. The blood also indicates that it wasn't ready to be assisted (as evidenced by what sounds like unabsorbed yolk). With wrong-end pippers, I find that assistance is often needed, but that can't occur until the veins have dried up. I think the duckling may have bled to death from the unlucky pip location. My condolences.
