External Pipping

I had a couple guys two hatches ago who chirped but never externally pipped and died. Was so upsetting! I lost every egg that year due to drowning. Is it possible your thermometer is off and the inc is at a lower temp than you think? Perhaps humidity is too high during incubation?
3 thermometer and 2 humidity ..All pegging even

How frustrating! I've also used a misting bottle ever so lighty on my eggs. I didn't worry about "locking down" completely last year...even candled gently to check for draw down they all hatched.

What if you pipped just one? See what happens for a short while. If it seems helpful, do another? A person suggested tapping on the eggs to signal time for hatch in another post.

I tapp and peep and I have a small flashlight I place over them or the one that is pipping..Seems to stimulate the not so eager ones.I might take one for this and see...

Well here is what I did...I took 3 and looked for sign of movement. Pipped the air end and found all three made it to full development. I had air cells that well almost 20 t0 30 % . All three dead. No evidence of internal pipping.. I did notice that there was 2 membranes, the white membrane was dry looking and the second membrane was sticky. I end up helping this last one out also. That's three I helped by adding water to the membrane once I could see the beak. All three pulled away from the umbilical cord real easy. Like they were done 24 hrs ago. So my belief in lock down..Just went out the window...LOCK DOWN IS NOT FOR THE BIRDS.. Sometime you gotta get in there and assist. Get your hands dirty..
See this very hard for any squeamish newbie.
I mean..All animal..in the husbandry..occasional need some assistance.
Just my experience....

I am glad I found this thread. I am incubating my first hatch right now. I am on day 23 now. 4 hatched out already and one had early so after lockdown for a couple days I got the chicks out when the early hatcher was so hungry she wouldn't stop pecking at the others. I put a wet paper towel in to keep the humidity from dropping but all this stuff about shrink wrapping has me worried. My found my humidity had dropped to 44%. One egg showed movement this morning and like it was trying to pip and couldn't.
