One of my girls laid this egg! Can’t wait to see if it is a double yoker. I think it was my buff Orpington. The other eggs are normal size large eggs.

Over the years I have had a lot of BO. Generally called 'Butter' I had one that lived to 4 years, which is a good spell for me. The first year, she laid almost all were double Yorkers. The second year, a double yolk 2-3 times a week, the third year - 1 in the first week of laying and never another double yolk.

I think it is fairly common in new layers, at least in my experience. I had a Turken that was especially good at it who even laid a triple yolk her first laying season. She never had any reproductive problems in the three or so years I had her. I had to sell that whole flock when I moved so I can’t say for certain that she didn’t develop issues down the road but I would think it unlikely given her age and health when I sold her.
