Hello,
My 9 month old hen, Digger, has been very sick. It started about 10 days ago, and I started the whole flock on Wrm Clear right away because I thought I recognized the symptoms. She was a bit puffed up and not as energetic as normal, then I noticed some white diarrhea. She seemed to not really be getting worse for a while and I actually thought maybe she was just depressed because one of our other hens had passed a few days before. Then about 4 or 5 days again I actually saw a live worm in her poop which confirmed my original thought. At this point she has very runny dark green and white poop, but I haven’t noticed any more worms. They have been on worm clear for 8 days now and she is only getting worse, so obviously it’s not working. Yesterday I gave her a dose of Safe Gaurd paste in case it’s a different kind of worm or needs something stronger so I really hope that helps. Today I took her to the vet because I have been so worried about her and I don’t know what else to do, but we don’t have an avian specialist in our town. We just have a small animal vet who works on chickens occasionally, but I don’t think she really knows much about it and it wasn’t very helpful. I had to drop her off for 5 hours because they only had emergency appointments left, and they did a fecal test which I should hear back about tomorrow. Other than that all the vet said was that she seems very sick and she is very under weight, she only weighs 3lbs. Right now I’m most worried about the fact that she is not drinking or eating much at all. I’ve only seen her take a drink once on her own today and same for yesterday. I did give her some electrolyte water by syringe, and she ate some apple and yogurt, but not much. Any advice will be greatly helpful, I really want to help her get through this.

I would dose her with the Safeguard at 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for
5 days in a row.
In your other thread (linked below) it was asked if she lays eggs. I don't see that answered but may have missed it. When was her last egg?

I would definitely make sure her crop is completely emptying overnight (take out food/water for the night and check first thing in the morning).
See if she will eat her normal nutritionally balance poultry feed for the majority of the day. Offering a small treat of egg. Make poultry grit available free choice.

Hello again, I am also worried she might have something wrong with her crop. Yesterday morning and again this morning, it still has a small amount left in it and it feels sort of hard. Is this possibly sour crop or impacted crop, or anything to worry about? I am afraid to feed her if this might be the case.

Okay thank you, I will try that. She is not laying, I believe her last egg was at least a week ago. And her crop is not emptying as I just mentioned, but I haven’t been removing the food and water so maybe I need to try that. Should I keep giving her water? I think she’s dehydrated because she isn’t drinking much on her own and she still has diarrhea.

If you feel her abdomen below the vent between the legs is there any feeling of bloat or fluid?

Always make water available during waking hours.

To check crop function, remove food/water from her cage when it's time for her to go to bed. She should be sleeping all night in the dark so she won't need to eat/drink. Check her crop in the morning. If it's still got food in it or it's squishy/fluid filled, etc. then begin treating for crop issues. But do provide water.
This article will help you determine what course of action you need to take. Let us know what you find in the morning.
