Extremely pointy eggs w/pics

So weird...can't help with why it is happening, I am still waiting on my to lay.

Maybe they don't have enough of the shell making ingredient and they have to close up the rest of the egg real fast like. Kind of like running out of fabric so you make the garment shorter?

Maybe you have a couple of aliens disguised as chickens in your coop.

In case you haven't noticed, chickens are aliens.

I get alot of them pointed at both ends. We refer to them fondly as pullet bullets. I was told they are common from my breed (LF brahma) and that they have great hatch rates.

We get those eggs occasionally too, I think they are mainly from our Buff Orpingtons.

I think the odd shaped eggs are really cool and show how our eggsare better, in nature nothing comes out perfectly the same. I love that my eggs are multi-colored, misshapen and sometimes a bit dirty!

My brown leghorn's eggs are fairly long and pointy. Not that bad but pointier than the other two birds' eggs.

I get pointy eggs too! I get green taller/thinner pointy eggs from my Easter egger chicken, their the only kind she lays. And unlike my other chickens who lay almost everyday, she lays 1 or 2 every 2 weeks or so

We just collected our first pointy egg today!
I got on BYC, did a search for "pointy egg" and found this thread!
I love BYC!!!!!

However, no one has actually explained the "Why" of the pointy eggs yet!

I like the hypothesis Sequin suggested, that they "ran out" of shell making ingredients and needed to close up the egg fast.

hmmmmm. that would suggest a deficit in feed/nutrients/calcium.

Do production hens ever lay pointy eggs?

I know this thread is from over a week ago, so I am likely not to get any answers, but still it just bugs me, where do these pointy eggs come from?

Yes commercial egg producers get all kinds of funky eggs too, but we rarely see them because the eggs are examined carefully before packaging to make sure the consumer only sees the "perfect" egg. They are usually also candled, because heaven forbid a consumer should see a blood or meat spot.

I picked up a carton last year when my hens were molting and it had three pointy eggs in it. Guess the egg inspector took a nap that day.
Pointy eggs just happen.
