Yesterday I noticed the left eye of my 5 week old Bielfelder, “Tender” wasn’t looking right. It appeared a bit red like it was irritated & she closed it when I was holding her. I administered drops of sterile artificial tears last night & twice so far today. However, I just noticed some bubbles in the corner. Which is causing me concern.
I’ve attached 2 photos...one of her last night before drops and the other just now showing bubbles.
I don’t want to “web md” myself into a frenzy that it’s something horrible so I’m posting here from some advice. Anyone else have experience w/this? Diagnosis? Treatment? Prognosis?
Much gratitude in advance!

I don’t think the eye drops caused the bubbles. Eye bubbles and foam can occur with mycoplasma (MG) in chickens. It might be just an eye injury or MG. You may want to get some Terramycin eye ointment from TSC or other feed stores—ask a clerk, since the small tubes are usually locked up. If her symptoms worsen (cough, sneeze, swelling around the eye, or labored breathing,) you may want to purchase Tylan 50 injectable and a few syringes with needles. I would not give it by injection, but give it orally 0.2 ml 3 times a day, for 3-5 days. Here is some info on MG:

Eggcessive,

Thanks a bunch for your input & for the link! She's experiencing no other symptoms so I'm inclined to believe it's just a minor injury or something in her eye. But I will be keeping a close eye on her and update when I can.

I'm happy to report that Tender is a-ok! After treating her w/sterile eye drops w/out seeing improvement, I changed treatment course. I began giving her 1 Euphrasia officinalis (6c) pellet (see photo) 2x/day along with an eyewash made from steeping Euphrasia officinalis (herb commonly known as Eyebright) 2x/day, and a .25mL drop of unrefined raw virgin coconut oil (in liquid state) directly in her eye also 2x/day.

Within 3 days the swelling, redness, & "bubbles" were gone. It's been 9 days since my post and I've attached a pic of what the eye looks like now....normal! She's eating, drinking, preening, flying, scratching, dust bathing, and gaining weight (3.25oz in a week actually!)…..perfectly normal/healthy behaviors my 7 week old Bielfelder.

Thanks for the comments, I greatly appreciated them! Oh, and @micstrachan she wasn't added to an established flock, per say. I purchased her a week after 2 EE's & 2 Jersey Black Giants and a week after I got Tender, I added 4 RIR's & 3 Barred Rocks.
