Eye crust

My one male duck has crust around both eyes. My females are fine. I just noticed the crust today. It is winter and they are inside. They do have a heated water bowl that they can dunk their heads in as well. It is just headed as to not freeze. What is the crust?

He is a mallard cross.

Do his eyes appear to be irritated or inflamed ?

No. Just a crust. No pus or swelling.

Could be a very mild infection that's causing some exudates, maybe. Or could be something like - he found an old bag that's got the dust from feed in it and he's been poking around in there and getting the dust stuck to his eyelids....

Can you offer a small vessel he can swim in for a little bit? See if that helps? I suppose you could try some mild saline drops - if it's a minor infection that may knock it out.

He can swim in the water bowl. He actually does swim in there. I may let them outside a bit before it snows soon.

Good! I would try just a little mild saline eye drops twice a day.

I will pick some up today. Thank you for your advice. I was pretty worried. I will get saline today.
