Hello, recently my rooster was attacked by a hawk resulting in his right eye being shut and net being able to see. I just wanted to know the extent of his injury and if his eye can heal again. Thank you!

When did this happen? Have you cleansed the wound? What are you doing to treat it?

Untreated, it will become infected and he will lose his sight. Treated daily with saline flushes and using Terramycin anitbiotic eye ointment in it twice a day, may save the eye.

If infection has had a good head start, he may have already lost his sight.

You will need to be the judge of where he is on this spectrum. Gloved, pull the eye lid up and down to expose the eye. If there is a lot of pus, which will be waxy, not runny, it needs to be removed. If the eye is cloudy with a white film, it is blind.

This happened sunday, unfortunately I was unable to treat it since I didnt know what to do

He may well be blinded, but I would flush the eye with saline twice daily, clean it off, and apply either Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin ointment twice a day.
