It was not puss the other day, just a mass of hard cartilage looking stuff in the corner. I pulled it out and flushed it with water. Since the eye is closed, I was wondering how to open it up to drain it. I have Neosporin and some other human antibiotic cream...would that be OK to use?Did the puss come back?
Is there more in there that needs to come out?
Do you have any antibiotics on hand?
Oh, I did not know that. Any suggestions on draining and treatment? What will happen if I do nothing?Puss in chickens is hard...mass like...nothing like what puss is in a human.
Overnight the eye opened and drained. I cleaned it with saline solution and applied triple ointment with a q-tip. I am hoping that the eye is on the mend, but plan to repeat this if needed. Thanks so much for being their for me...and everyone.I would clean it out well with sterile saline or veterycin eye wash (available at most tractor supply's and feed stores, may be in the dog/cat section) and make sure there is no more puss or any foreign matter in there. Then you can use terramycin eye ointment (also available at many tractor supply's and feed stores, you may have to ask) or you can use cipro eye drops, available online here: http://www.firststatevetsupply.com/store2/antibiotics/opthalmics/ciloxan-eye-drops.html
