My poor rooster has an eye infection. have been treating it with saline and teramisin ointment. The eye continues to discharge a heaven yellow pus. Think he has lost his eye. Currently, his crop has started turning a dark purple. Wondering if the two problems are related. Has anyone dealt with eye infections? Appreciate any advice or comments.

How does his crop feel? Have you tried cleaning the eye out completely with just water? Check his ears for infection.

Can you clean the good out of his eye using saline and cotton pads, and press around the eye to get any more out. Then flush it well. Try to see if the eye is intact. Then apply the ointment twice each day after cleaning it. Does he smell bad? It could be coryza, a chronic respiratory disease. He may need sulfa antibiotics from a vet, or you can try to get SMZ TMP from here and give him 1/2 tablet daily into his beak twice a day

I assume you meant that his comb, not crop was turning black. Has he been coughing, gasping for air, or having crackles or wheezes when breathing? He might be having some comb color change due to stress, temperature changes, dehydration, or heart problems. Does the color improve? If the tips and back of the comb are dark, it may not be as serious as if the whole comb is dark.

Have been cleaning his eye as described above… and heave pus comes out each time. It does smell bad. Over his eye is a heavy yellow film that can not be removed without getting blood on the eye moistened pad. He does not have respiratory problems and acts fine except his bad eye and comb turning dark . He may loose the eye, bought want to make certain infection does not spread? Thanks for helpful response.

Check in both ears for an infection. Alot of eye and throat problems stem from the ears.
