I have a 7 week old Breese x Ameraucana mix that is having some trouble with her one eye. I haven't noticed any weezing or any respiratory issues, her mouth is clear, and she's acting totally normal. It has looked like this for about 4 days. The yellowish lump is soft, not hard like pus usually is, and it squeezes out a bit when I try to clean her eye up. I've been using Vetericyn Eye Wash and Terramycin (thats why her feathers are brown) for 3 days and it doesn't seem to be improving. I'm in the southern US, but I haven't noticed any evidence of worms. I'm kind of at a loss of how to help at this point. Our closest avian vet is 2.5 hours away, and he only sees patients every 2 weeks, so that's not really an option. I really appreciate any insight anyone can offer! Thank you!!

What comes out of the lump when you squeeze it, pus or clear fluid?

Can you get a really clear photo of the lump?

I'd continue to rinse the eye as needed and apply the Terramycin eye ointment in the eye at least 2x a day.

Thank you for replying so quickly! I can try to get a clearer photo tomorrow, but I'll attach one I took from the front a couple of hours ago for now.

I wipe her eye before eye drops and it seems to be a little yellow. The lump seems to disappear when I try to move it up out of her conjuntiva, but a few moments later it's there again.

I should add that I had a similar issue with one of her flock mates 3 weeks ago. Screenshot_20250827_234458_Photos.jpg
This is the after and before from treating her for a week with Enrofloxican and Terramycin. Her eye is still somewhat discolored, but it isn't swollen anymore

Sounds like you have a respiratory disease moving through the flock.

I'd rinse out the eyes really well with saline and continue to put the ointment in the eyes.

Is there a bad odor?

Baytril is a good antibiotic, but if there's a bad odor, this may be Infectious Coryza, it can be hard to know. If so, then a Sulfa Antibiotic may be more effective.

Of course, you may be dealing with a virus and medications won't help a lot unless there's secondary infection.

I had an eye issue with one of my chicks a little bit ago. She encouraged twice a day saline rinses of the eye (same as the advice I got on here from a member) because it keeps things moving in the sinus system.

If your one chick improved hopefully this one will as well.
