So, I read some of the older posts and am wondering if there are any new opinions about what to do if you hen's eye is injured or pecked out? Yesterday one of my Buff Orpingtons (Rosie) was attacked by an Americana (Oreo). Rosie's face is bloody (looks like some came out her nasal passages, but her beak seems okay) and she hasn't opened her left eye since. We separated her last night, and will likely do it again tonight, but she is out and seems okay with the other hens today. Any advice? I'm not sure what to do about the eye? I put Blu-Kote on the other possible scrapes as I couldn't get all the dried blood off.

Welcome to BYC. Sorry that you had to wait for an answer. Wash the eye out with normal saline, and apply Terramycin or Neosporin ointment twice a day to prevent infection. Eye injuries will swell for a few days, and because they have a third protective eyelid (nictitating memebrane,) chickens can look as though the eye is gone, then suddenly you can see it. If the eye is injured or gone, your chicken can do well with only one eye. I hope she does okay.
