My delaware blue rooster Angus has an irritated eye. I flushed it for a few days and finally got a piece of shaving out of it.
He is still scratching it like crazy, keeping it shut.
There's no drainage and I disn't see anything else in it.
Any recommendations on how to keep him from scratching and to ease his discomfort?

Is he able to open it?
It looks like it may be scabbed over a bit.
Continue to flush with saline, there still may be something else in it. After flushing, you can apply some Vetericyn eye gel or Terramycin eye ointment to see if this helps with the irritation.

He does open it periodically. I think it's just irritated now from all the scratching.
I'll keep flushing it and I'm going to get some ointment today

Angus update.
He kept the eye mostly closed the last 2 days. Got first application of terramycin last night.
He's had it open most of the day today and is perking back up!

Glad to hear he is perking up!
Sounds like he is on the road to recovery. Continue with the flushing and applying ointment for several days until he is back to his old self.

Keep us posted

He is beautiful! I'm glad to hear he is able to keep it open. It's possible he could have scratched it enough to damage the eye.
You may want to flush it for a few more days and apply ointment for a little while longer as well.

Thanks for the update.
