Eye Injury

Thank you so much for your reply. You said "don't give up hope". That is my roosters name. We thought he was a hen and named him Hope. Due to his paralysis when he was 3 months old, I named him Hope because there always is hope. I still don't know what happened to him. He lost use of his legs and could not stand. After 4 months of extensive TLC he regained use of legs but still limps. Realized he was a roo when the crowing started. He is indeed spoiled rotten. Maybe that is why the Isabelle hates him so, or maybe because of his handicap?

The swelling his eye has gone done quite a bit, but he won't or can't open it. I still have him on antibiotics and eye cream. the oozing has stopped and the lid looks much better.

Thanks again and may God bless.

* Happy to hear that he's improving.

I had a special needs pullet I named Hope, for the same reason and too loss the use of her legs. Hers was from the MM incednt, I just lost her this week. Anyway, I would keep flushing the eye with saline or eye wash, keep it moist and the lids from sticking together w/ vasiline or neosporine. Most times the puss builds up into a hard cottage cheese like substance, makes the eye look real swollen, it is hard for the eye to heal that way. I gentaly massage the mass and keep wetting it with saline until it breaks loose and you can slide it out. Leaving it in only slows the healing and keeps pressure on the eye. Once you get that out healing gets faster. If puss is not a problem, then keep flushing and use the vasiline/neo.
