We brought this guy to the vet last week and he said either conjunctivitis or CRD. He suggested we treat with ointment and then cull him if that doesn't clear it up.

Before we cull (don't want to), I'd like to get some BYC family input.

CRD is chronic and although your bird may no longer show symptoms, they become a carrier and can spread it to other birds or chickens. I personally would cull for the sake of your entire flock and the future of your flock. I dont know if you are intending to breed and sell, but if you are, a bird with CRD will stop that dream asap.

Its pretty bad. Are you sure its CRD and not pink eye? They can get that.

I personally would not risk it. But that is just me.

Its hard to decide: live with the knowledge your bird could be a carrier and quarantine your property permanently, or cull the bird to reduce possible contamination.

I think it's Pink Eye; however, we've been treating it with an ointment for a week and it still looks like that. At first he wouldn't open it and now he will.

It's a tough call as he is eating and drinking and chirping away just fine. :/

I don't want to cull a bird who may just have pink eye or scratched it.

Have you tried Tylan? Its an broad spectrum antibiotic. Or you can try neosporin..The kind without painkillers. If hes not better in 5 days, i would call it quits. The ointment the vet gave should have had a vast improvement in 7 days.
