Just noticed one of my 6 week old chicks has a strange shaped eye. I'm not sure if it's a birth defect or an infection? The eye looks shape looks oval and stretched. Only the left eye, the other looks normal. What do you think? She appears active, eating, and drinking fine.

What type of food/treats are you feeding?

There can be many causes of eye issues. Genetics, a peck or injury to the eye, vitamin/nutritional deficiency are a few causes.

You can try offering some poultry vitamins that contain Vitamin A, E and B vitamins or give some beef liver and leafy greens to see if there is improvement. Just make sure the chicks have a source of grit available.

Watch the eye for any pus or discharge.
Let us know how she is doing.

Thank you for the reply! I'll add Quick Chick electrolytes and vitamins to their water. They are on non-med starter, chick grit, and I bring them greens 1-2x/day. No discharge but keeping an eye on it.

Have you been able to figure anything out? I have the same issue also in a 6 week old! Hers are both eyes and she also is eating, drinking, no discharge anywhere
