Hello!

Patsy my 7 month old easter egger started laying last week. She only laid once then I noticed her favoring her eye. Open and closed but mostly closed. She stopped laying but otherwise fine. Today on my day off I was able to get a good look at her and I think it's bad. She won't open it, it's cloudy and red, I will add pictures to the feed but they aren't great. The eye is not bright at all

My theory is damage to the cornea, but ideas welcome!

Try rinsing/flushing the eye with saline and put an eye ointment in the eye twice a day. Terramycin ointment can be found at TSC, if you can't get that, then use Original Neosporin.

Hard to know what happened, she may have gotten pecked in the eye or something.

Is she eating/drinking ok?

I tried neosporin, she didn't mind it. She's acting normal other than the eye and not laying. They aren't mean to her, so I don't know how she did it. There's only 4 but they don't pick on each other

I had a hen pecked in the eye and blinded because she would get too close or run into the others. She was a polish , though with poofy head feathers limiting her eyesight. If you can get another picture when she has the eye open again, that would be good to see. My hen got along fine after she lost her eyesight in the one eye, being in a familiar setting.

Thank you, your story is helpful. I feel like if she loses it or loses eyesite, she will still be able to have a full comfortable life
