Eye problem recovering from fight, Araucana Pete 6 YRS. old, picture.

Hi,
About one week ago I noticed Pete had been in a fight and had scabs around the one eye and comb. I put him in a big pen with some ladies he gets on with and first he wouldn't open the eye and I just used saline for the first few days. After about 3 days I started giving him noepolydex drops 1 x day and now his eye has been open for a few days but I notice the inner white lid is still over a bit which you can see in the picture.

Is it just healing normally or should he see a vet, money is tight? He seems to have vision still in it thankfully. He usually loves banana but when offered today he was indifferrent. That got me worried. I wish I knew who fought with him, he is the group leader.

Anyone have input? He is eating and drinking but not at all anxious to leave the pen he is in with Little Jeannie and her friend.

The vet is totally your descision. When two birds fight it can do a lot of damage, I've seen my Oriental Games rip through welded wire during a pen fight after one got out one day. It looks like he might have gotten a direct shot to that eye and it will take a long time to heal or there could have been internal damage to the eye itself in which case he will probably go blind on that side.
About all that you can do at this point is to wait and see, watching for any infection setting in and making sure he is eating and drinking as he should.

Thanks, I will keep an eye out (no pun intended), he is one of my main breeders so if his eye looks worse I might consider taking him to the opthamologist, it is very expensive so I will monitor him and see what happens and go from there.

My Spiceman lost the sight in one eye from a fight but he was injured a lot more than Pete was. I may keep Pete with Jeannie's group even if he is better until I get rid of some of the boys for his own protection.

It was probably one of the young ruffians trying to make a place for themselves.
