I have a one week chick that won't open one of her/his eyes. Should I be concerned? I seperated her from the others.

Was the eye opened when it was hatched? Or was in born that way? Have you tried putting any eye ointment (Terramycin)? If it was born that way there shouldn't be a problem. If it happened after it was hatched injury/pecked it could be a problem. Atrophy of the eye itself will happen and possibly lead to infections. Is There any redness or swelling? Chickens can live a normal life with one eye.

eye was looking better, so I put her back in with the others. Now it is back to being closed. She is much smaller than the other meat birds. I will look into the ointment. Would Fleet Farm have such an ointment?

    thanks!
