I have a pen that I have my chicks in that are 8-12 weeks old as I cant put them in my main pen since its not covered and something eats my chicks, nothing messes with my adult birds. anyway, in that box I also have a 8 week old turkey, I went out an noticed the turkey was sneezing, the next day I noticed my Cochin had bubbly, watery eyes. now I have 3 that have this. I keep putting warm compresses on 2 of them that keep the eye closed. I called a feed store and they told me to come get antibiotics that I mix with the water. The antibiotics don't seem to be helping. I called the feed store back (the owners there raise chickens also) today and told them that after almost a week on the antibiotics it doesn't seem to be helping, they told me to come get the fowl pox vaccine and give to all my chickens. so we did. But after reading more on fowl pox, I am not convinced that's what they have. I have chicks in this pen that are from 2 different people. it seems the ones that are sick are all from the same person. I don't believe those were given any vaccines. they are all still eating and drinking fine, but the sick ones- on their backs have a line where they have been wiping their eyes and it has made it like dirty/wet looking. also i will note, one of them, a polish chicken in there, also has had an eye closed for almost 5 weeks, its huge, not watery and bubbly like the rest and it almost looks like his eye will pop out? I am new to chickens and love having them so do my children. I am just trying to figure this out. thanks so much in advance for any help.

ok its an infection. they will need the anti biotics, for at least 14 days at the correct dose. if they are not eating then they will need to be administered it via dropper or culled. do they have snotty noses? does it smell? are they coughing and sneezing? do they have face swelling?

Only the turkey has a snotty nose and he sneezes. The chickens do not. No coughing, no swelling and no smell.im thinking it's something that there is a vaccine for. The ones I bought somewhere else aren't sick but they were vaccinated. All the sick ones came from the same individual and she didn't vaccinate them. I'm new to chickens and she told me it wasn't necessary unless I had more than 100? I don't want to cull them.

They eyes are a little puffy. And I can get them to open with a warm compress.

is coryza treatable?

Some people say yes but you will get recurring flare ups. Most people recommend culling. But the disease will live in your coop and soil for I think 60 or so days without a host so if you cull you have to wait before you get new birds. It is a nasty disease and HIGHLY contagious, so I recommend doing a lot of research on it. I hope you don't have it, but the symptoms match and better you know now.

Here are a few pictures. maybe they will help. I am really hoping its something I can get rid of, & they wont be carriers forever :(

silkie/Cochin

the turkey, he seems to be the sickest.

and my sweet lavender cohin :(

from the offset that looks like an eye infection, similar to pink eye, if it is more than that the antibiotics will help. but getting some eye cream would be a great idea
