Hi everyone
Help needed please my chicken is closingher eyes alot and just sitting..it started a couple days ago..today I've syringed some water and vitamin boost down her as she is now not eatting or drinking..a neighbour said it should be a respiratory tract infection and to give her citrusdol extract which I have just ordered but may come to late..can I syringe her water and grapefruit juice?? If so how much Grapefruit??

How old is she, and does she lay eggs? Is she having any problems breathing, sneezing, or does she have bubbles in eyes or swelling around an eye? What do her poops look like? Is her tail up or down? There can be many reasons a chicken sits with eyes closed. She may feel bad, but the more symptoms you can describe can help us to figure out what her problem is.

I have no idea what citrusdol is, but I would offer water with electrolytes up to her beak to drink. If you are in the US, Poultry NutriDrench or SaveAChick electrolytes with vitamins can be used. Gatorade or Pedialyte are also good electrolytes. Mix some chick feed with a lot of water to make a mushy feed to offer. Cooked egg is also good. Water is most important.

She is 2 yrs old..her eyes look swore not swollen..she is sitting around..not sneezing or anything just eyes closed..im in the south west UK.. I've just separated her from the rest..ive syringed her water mixed with a vitamin boost for chickens..she's breathing fine..she not eat today..tail is normal..poo is watery with white in it

Does she normally lay eggs? If she normally lays, you can insert a clean finger into her vent to feel for a stuck egg. Can you feel of her crop to see if it is empty or full, hard or puffy? If she is not having respiratory symptoms, I would think it might be more likely that she is having a reproductive or crop disorder. The crop should be empty in early morning, and gradually fill up during the day if she is eating and drinking. If her crop feels full in the early morning, let us know. Look her over for mites or lice, or specks of brown material on her skin. Has she lost weight or muscle in her breast?

Her crop is empty I can feel her breast bone...she normally lays..no mites or anything on her..I've just given her more water and a cooked egg..but may have to syringe the egg mash..

Cheaked her vent it's fine..no egg stuck..did feel very hot tho.

I would concentrate on getting her to eat anything, including chicken feed, egg, tuna, or canned cat food. If you could see a vet for antibiotics or to test for worms or coccidiosis, that would be hood. Unfortunately, cancer and reproductive infection can be common.

I had a chicken that died a couple yrs ago and the vet done an postmortom and there was a tumour in her reproductive area...so I do wonder...I did read the eye closing is a sign of them converving there energy when ill.
