"Good." Said Fern. "Jay, let's get out of this dark hole." She helped move her into the sunlight by some young pullets.
"I'll check in later." she promised, head already filling with dreams of chicks and eggs and nesting as she walked away.

Jay looked around at the young pullets, she felt clean and shiny since Fern helped groom her. But her wounds still stung and she gasped with every step she took.

Fern walked incredibly carefully, making sure not to jostle the little egg tucked under her wing. It somehow felt both wrong and right, to have decided to hatch the dead hen’s egg.

Cave walked around looking for Cloud, and hopefully, Blaze. She felt rather embarrassed forgetting who he was, but hoped that it was ok.

Web winced as she saw the pullets helping Jay out of her burrow. Poor Jay. Web ran up to Jay, fussing around her. "Are you alright, Jay?
