I would rather use the term "Native American" instead and yes, along with sweet potatoes there was pre-Columbian trade between Polynesian and South American natives, the Polynesian chickens eventually evolved to what is the chickens bred by the Araucanian tribes.. Have you seen Rapa-Nui chickens?(Easter Island chickens) They look like an intermediate between Sumatras/Cemani and South American native chickens.It was formally established into a breed after being imported to the US, but the Araucana Indians were keeping birds that were rumpless, had tufts, & laid blue eggs for years prior to the importation.
