Fabulous, 40, conforming non conformist ramblings on being yourself

I think the young girls are saying to you "when I get to be your age I want to be happy and explore things I am interested in" in a subliminal sort of way. I used to do camps for kids and most of the girls told me they wanted to be like me when they grew up. It made me really uncomfortable. I was 40, I had lost a great job, had very little income, was in the middle of a divorce and crying miserably on the inside. The camp, playing with horses, solving murder mysteries on horseback, playing games was "the bomb" with them. I also made them handle hognose snakes, use a power drill, and told them they can't count on men for anything and should learn to do as much as they could themselves.

Funnyfarmer, if judo makes you happy, then you keep on doin' it. It's our passions in life that keep us centered and sane.
Babylady4, thanks for the birthday wishes and sweet words, and Happy Birthday to you, too!
If I am ever lucky enough to find a guy who will both let me do my own thing and not drive me nuts, I"ll be a very lucky girl. I'm just not holding my breath

Luvarabhorses, I love that you did the camp thing with the girls and horses. What an awesome life! Sorry you were at a point in your life when you didn't feel you had much to offer--you obviously did.

You guys/girls are all awesome!

And good job doing all these things yourself! I understand the whole aging thing. Just cause we are aging we still feel the same on the inside! I feel the same as in my 20s...I am just a whole lot smarter now!
