There's Mom with the upside down, not-dead rooster, trying to untie his legs...
and there's me, blood pouring down, trying to smush the flesh of my thumb back together so I can apply pressure.

Rooster: 1
Rebecca: 0

"Don't draw the knife, push it." said @U_Stormcrow
That was running through my head, but my hands did the opposite.
It was his short little neck, I couldn't get enough to work with out the bottom of the cone... but I'm swearing off blades, broomsticks from here on! 😅

Oh man that looks painful.
Thanks for the PSA,
*Mental note*
Don't get bloody, cut TOWARDS your buddy.

That looks awful!!! I am so sorry that happened to you!

It's too late for this injury, but in the future, here's my recommended safety glove:
https://www.saf-t-glove.com/product.cfm/28062/

Spectra / Dyneema fiber is one of my favorite materials. Stronger than Kevlar and steel.

https://www.ballyribbon.com/fibers/spectra-dyneema/#:~:text=Spectra® / Dyneema® are,world's strongest and lightest fibers.

They put Spectra in falconing gloves. Unfortunately, since they contain leather, falconing gloves are not easily washable, which limits their use somewhat. However, there are plenty of other Spectra and Spectra combination glove options.

Sorry you got hurt.

After a cockerel weaved while I was bobbing, I pulled out the cut proof gloves. Most hardware stores will sell them. Gloves held the bandaid on, but I didn't get stitches.

Another trick, pull the head down to fully extend the neck and wait for moving to stop. Then slice.

Broomsticks work too. Thanks for the reminder. Heal quick!
