So my Guinea hens will not go into their new pen at night because it's too dark without a night light. Will they get used to going in on time and not needing a nightlight?

I sadly have no electrical outlets nearby.
What about a small camping lantern, with a rechargeable battery? I don't know about guineas, but with my chickens, I treat train them - throw some scratch in the coop just before bedtime, keep them occupied for a bit, then they're already in.

The way I trained my guineas to go in the coop for the night was to herd them in before it gets dark. I also herded them at different times of the day to get them used to going in whenever I want them to go in.

I also only feed and water in the coop so they are used to going in the coop off and on all day long.

Whether you use treats or herding, you have to make sure they are in before dark. Once they start laying and some of them go broody, the hens that are broody on hidden nests will never go in on their own.

There is a ton of 12 volt LED lights on Amazon, they are way bright enough and use very little electricity. I use a small solar panel and a small 12 volt battery and it powers my lights and a linear actuator to close the coop door on the late summer evenings if I am not there.

Do you by chance have vents up at the top of y

How much does the 12 volt battery, small solar panel and linear actuator (whatever that is) cost? And where do we get it?

Oops … part of that post was supposed to be this post. Just thinking if you have vents at the top of your coop it might be easier to set up a solar light inside with the solar "panel" outside, sold as a single unit at home depot. I use one to light our flag, solar panel is separate from the ight itself. Must be a way to jury rig something like that.

A linear actuator just closes and open a door, you don't need one of those.

is something like I use. And if you have an old car battery you can just put a good charge on that it it will work for months.
You can get a 5 or 10 watt solar panel on Amazon for $15 -$20 and if you go that route a solar charge controller is another $10 bucks. It's all 12 volt stuff, nothing you can get electrocuted with, lol and pretty straight forward.
