Hi all, I've been lurking on this forum for quite some time and finally got my coop built and obtained some chickens. I got two chicks at the same time and one looks great and the other has grown to about the same size but looks a bit like a war survivor. No blood and hasn't been pecked but just isn't progressing as fast. They're about a month old and the one still doesn't seem to have all her feathers. She's just as active as the other but has been slower to get out of the cage, slower to be able to get on the roost, etc...
Any ideas?

I would look at her eating habits, if not being pecked then maybe a nutrient deficiency? Hard to tell in the pictures but looks like the other is a rooster? At a month old its red comb is already standing out. A closer look at her would be better if possible, have you checked her for mites?

I was really afraid it was getting pecked but had it looked at by a friend that has experienced that and she said it didn't really look like it. they really have plenty of space especially now that they get out of the coop and run every day.
The black one still has a fuzzy bottom like it still is in the process of getting the feathers. I'll look closer for mites if its something that would affect just one chick. I really hope they are both hens......
Do I need to try to catch and feed it separately for a bit? it seems to get its fair share of what everyone else eats..

Before I know what? Sorry, there were a few different things in the last post and I wasn't sure what you were referring too.
Hmm?..You just got the bird recently correct?..Could of been pecked. Once it has a juvenile molt it should look way better...If it's mites then treat all Birds and totally clean the Coop. I use Dusting powder around all edges and the Roost.

I got both chicks as baby's that were probably days old. They had not been pecked. It just hasn't got all its feathers yet. One has progressed into a healthy looking bird, one has not. What age will this juevenile molt that you're talking about happen?
