Failure To Thrive? tiny sick chick? Can he go with other chicks? PICS

I took care of some chicks at a Fall Festival last October. They were all mixed bantams from MM but one was as you describe...wa-ay tinier than the rest (hence the name Tiny). The farm didn't have any place I could put him/her separately, so I just kept a very close eye on him. I saw that no one picked on him and that he was able to eat and drink whenever he felt like it. He snuggled up with the rest to sleep. But oooh, was he TINY! When the festival ended, the chicks were about 8 weeks old and Tiny had caught up to the point that he wasn't ridiculously undersized anymore although he was still smaller than the rest. In his case, I think it was best he stayed with the others as he got along okay and he had friends to hang out. You might try putting yours in with the rest and just watch real closely that they don't pick on him and he can eat and drink. Just a suggestion. I hope he makes it, whatever you decide to do!!!

Here is a photo. Her bum is totally bald!

SeaChick, it's not in your hands anymore. You have done everything right. The chick will live if it is equipped to live and thrive. You never know what internal things might have started before you even got her/him.

Seeing the other chicks would help, but if that's not practical tonight (with your other things going on), try a fluffy stuffed animal. It has worked for other people on this forum.

And finally, young lady (applies to either Stacey or Olivia), relax about the exposure. If you removed the poop, I can't think of any way the first chicks could get infected with anything. So go have a good time with your family, and know that you did the right thing by taking the chick home. It's more of a chance than he would have had otherwise!

I'm still hoping someome can advise on the conatgiousness issue......

1) Does theis stuntedness indicate anything that might be contagious?

2) If she was in the normal brooder for 1 minutes yesterday, and they are breathing the same air now, have the others alrady been exposed and can I therefore put her in with the others?

She's in a plastic bin seet inside the big brooder now, and she's doind great..... but she obviously wants to get out with the others.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

THANKS SO MUCH!!

Stacey, since I'm not knowledgeable about contagion pathways between chicks, why don't you start a new thread about contagion questions? Maybe that would get more specific interest than a general "sick chick" thread....
