On Feb. 25, we set 324 eggs, the last egg hatched yesterday. We now have 321 little fuzzy butts running amuck. Not bad for 9 different LGs, in 9 different schools. We did have a few tense times with a power outage and a student that loved to mess with the temp. But all worked out and the childern will be taking home the chicks today. Tomorrow the phone calls will start from the parents, come get this noise makers, I can't sleep. The joys of parenthood.

Wow! What a bold endeavor! I am also in education and am wondering how you managed this. Did you need permission slips prior to bringing home the chicks? Is each family going raise their chick? Interesting idea!!!

They call you? Are you able to run all over and pick up the 'unwanted ones'?

I have been placing bators in classrooms for years. Normally the teacher will know long before the hatch if a child can't have the chicks. The few they can't have them live in apartments, but those students try to find a friend to keep the chick for them. Many of the eggs we hatch are from the students parents, so there is no problems with the chicks going home with the student. In most cases the parent will call or write a note stating the student can or can't have the chick. A few of the schools have FFA and 4H programs with animals living on campus, so there is always a spot for the chicks.
