Very sorry to hear of your run of luck. Touchie subject, if they are not receptive to the problem/damage has done it could make life in your neighborhood uncomfortable. You might want to consult your local animal control for assistance in addressing this?
yeah I have seen them kill CHICKS.. but NEVER a full grown chicken unless we're talking bantams
I seriously doubt a stray cat can take out a good sized rooster unless it's one heck of a BIG cat
sure anything is possible.. but in the case of a cat killing ADULT large fowl i still say it's highly doubtful.. and for them to kill several for fun?.. nope.. i would say that sounds like the work of a canine
and btw.. that DOES NOT look like a full grown ADULT chicken in that picture.. show me a video of a domestic house type cat chasing down and killing a big ol adult Jersey Giant roo and THEN I will change my mind
That is a chick... not an adult chicken.
Cats won't attack full grown chickens unless they are really desperate, and if your nieghbours cat has food available to it, I doubt it would have bothered taking down ONE chicken. Three adults birds killed is not the work of a cat. You have another predator lurking around.
Well then you folks insinuate I may be full of beans because the picture does not show a full grown chicken being killed? Our neighbor has one killed outright (an EE) and another injured that led to infection and death in the last year.
Sorry but just because you have not seen it (yet) do not insinuate it does not happen please as it may give folks the wrong impression leading to them losing or having a bird injured or worse.
One should be very careful when keeping cats with chickens around and especially feral cats!
Perhaps you will get a chance to take that picture or video yourself if you do not take care.....

51 years of raising chickens and cats and I have yet to see a cat take out an adult full sized chicken... so I think I am safe in not standing by with a video camera!

I have been active with chickens 55 years and have seen it unfortunately more than once.
Just because you have not seen it does not mean it does not happen I am afraid.
Simply trying to share mine and my neighbors experiences with cats attacking chickens in hopes it may help others avoid the same issues.
It is not so much that a cat can't take out A chicken, but she lost THREE. THAT is not the way cats hunt. Why would two more remain around when one of the flock is taken out?
My nighbors cat tried to mess with my girls ONCE. I was scared I would be paying vet bills. (not really) Matilda went at it no holes barred.
I just think you should not be JUST thinking cat.

Most people on this thread have agreed that it was not the work of a cat, are you willing to kill an animal that hasn't done anything wrong? Leaving the real predator to kill another few birds?
It is unusual for sure, but I believe you. When I was a kid, I had a small black tomcat that would yowl at the ravens and crows. The birds would line up on the peek of the roof and swoop down at him and he would murder them one at a time. I had to remove their dead bodies from the yard. One day, he killed 14 large crows. This cat could open latched screen doors and would knock over beer cans and lap up what he could before my dad would chase him off.
