Fairly new to chickens

Welcome to BYC. I understand your frustrations about waterers. I really prefer metal, as I am concerned out plastics leeching into the chickens' water, but the galvanized waterers are not easy to disinfect. So I agree with you completely. And if you have suggestions on who to ask about making stainless steel waterers, please let me know, because I would buy them in a heartbeat.

I'm pretty happy with my watering system.

Chickens are extremely messy and kick up dirt and dust all day... so any type of "open" waterer regardless of material is going to get yucky real quick. I wanted something that keeps the water clean and lasts my chickens a couple weeks.
So I use these horizontal nipples from amazon attached to a 2 gallon bucket.

This size is easy for me to carry and clean and sanitize. No leaking when threads are wrapped with plumbers tape. And it's lasted 3 years and no issues so far.

I also use a stainless steel dog bowl on top of a cinderblock out in the large run (away from my dry litter) because my girls like to drink from it, but it gets dirty quickly and they knock it over occasionally.

I'm sure you just wanted to vent... so you probably won't even come back to read any of these responses...

Take a deep breath.. whew...and now, wait. You will more than likely find an answer to this problem here at BYC. I myself had..a small flock. I used the plastic waterer's with no problem. Had them inside the coop..so maybe that's why ..no problems. Anyway... Welcome! Lots of help here.
