fake egg being moved from nest to nest!!

i did have a domonique on the nest the other day and continued to peck me and would not let me gather from under her. First time that has happened. Egg under the wing might be the answer? I did not know they could or would do that!
Maybe she is thinking about being broody!

So I've been seeing the same behavior. I have a hutch with 3 nest boxes but only have 4 chickens. I bought two ceramic eggs to get them to start laying in the 2/3 boxes. They consistently would move the eggs to the same nest box. I have seen them nudging them along with their beaks.

I still only get 3 eggs a day max out of 4 hens so I thought trying to get them to use more boxes would help. But they just want to consolidate.

hello @Chickenwaffles , welcome to BYC :frow

The thread you are replying to is a few years old (last post before yours in sept 2021) so you may not get a reply from the original poster. But you may get new ones (like me) instead :)

Hens can move eggs in their wings too, as if under their arms. It's very common that they all want to use the same nest box, but not so common actually to see them moving eggs.
