My hens are about 5 months old now and one of my girls just started laying the other day. My nesting boxes were previously empty and I just added some hay and put a ceramic, fake egg in one of them. The nesting boxes are also level with the floor. During the day, I let my hens free range and leave the doors to their coop open. Today, I went down there to check on them and I noticed the ceramic egg was missing. I looked all around the coop and I still can't find it. I think something went in and took it. Are there any suggestions? I haven't had any problems with predators before. I also live in the Midwest (that gives you an idea of what predators we have).

I have also had the same problem! We had two and one went missing, I couldn't find it anywhere. Turns out, when I was moving some sand around up near our car port, something has buried it there. I don't know if it was the chickens or not, but I'm curious as to what others may say!

I don't know how my chickens could have possibly moved it that far!

Happens all the time to me. Mine either play hockey with the fake eggs or bury them under the straw.
I can't find it anywhere in the coop. In order for it to fall out of the coop, it would have had to go over a ledge that is almost an inch high.
