Falconry

bahh raptors are bird too granted I would be upset if a raptor got one of my chickens but it is in their nature none the less I would be even more upset to loose one to a trained pet but I have to say the hobby has peaked my interest in the past and it is still a noble hobby and not an easy or cheap hobby to get into good luck and keep him away from my flock lol jk

I was a licensed falconer for several years. Never flew my own bird, though... just trained nonreleasables for wildlife centers over the country. I've flown everything from vultures to owls and hawks to tiny kestrels. You'll have a great time, since it seems you're going about it correctly and acknowledging the regulations!
Feel free to PM me for advice when you get started. I've got a network of folks who are all really helpful.

And I thought I was the only hawk lover here.
Have you started on your equipment yet?
I'll be starting my apprenticeship this year also.
Passed the test, found a sponsor, got most of my gear together and will start construction on the mews next week.
It's going to be a looong summer waiting for trapping season.

I LOVE falconry and hope to become an apprentice soon. This is a very cool a rehabilitation center for birds of prey in apopka florida here is the link to it ; http://www.arc4raptors.org I hope that I can find a master falconer to train me (which I already have). I have a book that has everything about falconry that was written by a king hundreds of years ago.

here is a link to the website for the North American Falconers Association or nafa... http://www.n-a-f-a.com this is confirmation that it is legal. it has picture regulations ethics links and much more.
