Fall Bi-Annual Carolina Poultry Party ~ Aug 6th at Irmo Tractor Supply

If someone wants to... My hubby bought me an incubator. I've never used one before and want to try it out. None of my birds are breeding so if someone wants to bring some eggs for me to practice hatching out!

I might be bringing a few birds now. A standard male Cochin almost solid white with some gray spots, and I will be bringing a pair of ringneck doves. I know...not chickens...but they need a home!

In addition to my birds to show off and chicks for sale I will also bring some hatching eggs to purchase as well. They will be pure bred large fowl. How many of each breed depends on the girls.

any suggestions on how to transport chickens? I've got 3 or 4 young roosters I'm planning on bringing to the swap and am trying to decide how to transport them. I found some cages on craigslist that'd be perfect but they are too far of a drive

I use dog/pet cages and they work great!! Other than that, I don't know what else to use other than show cages. Which, btw, I would like to get a few but haven't found any.

I have found you can use plastic totes (replace the lid...we don't want them to die) Cut a piece of chicken wire for a lid that will fit snuggly on top. Bend it over the top nice and tight making one end a little easier to open up. That will be your end to open and close as needed. I've done this before and seems to hold all of my birds. And if I have concerns that the bird is nervous in the tote I use the original lid to cover over half the tote, but not all of it. Just enough to darken the box a little. It's a cheaper route than buying a bunch of dog cages. I've kept birds in quarantine in them before.

I would imagine if you have a rather large feisty rooster you might want to try this out before you put it in the tote and tote it off and it escape enroute.

That sounds like a good idea..and cheap too!! I just have so much I want and NEED to bring to sell-- I may end up using large cardboard boxes with vents/holes cut in them just to carry them in. I'm bringing my large 10x10 shade tent to sit under and provide shade for the birds.

I guess I need to go buy the ribbons for the show winners. I'll make some generic ballots, and we can all just write-in our vote for Best Male, Best Female, & Best of Show using the owners name and what particular bird. REMEBER: entries can be of any age.
