NowIam gladI went overboard buying yarn for this swap!! I have 7 done I think. I finished another last night but I was really tired and not sure if i counted right, lol.

We brought home 4 calves yesterday, one with special needs, so I've been busy!

I MIGHT be in... gonna see how many squares I can get done this week since we'll be busy.. if I can get a few done then I'll join in.. if it is just impossible then I'll just have to sit back and admire everyone's work!

I like to crochet while watching TV. Seems to me with only 16 squares or so that's less than one a day. It should be easy enough to do for even the newest of beginners when doing a solid color basic granny with no pattern. Though the last row may need to be either a single or half double crochet stitch to make it 12". I prefer either an F or G needle. These are small and easy to begin on.

Bigger needles are clumsy and smaller are tedious.

Rancher-That is interesting. I find a G or H hook gives me 12" in ten rounds of double crochet.

Some of you are keen on Southwest colors and I wonder whether mine will be too bright. I'm using reds and brighter golds and colors which seem pretty Aztec to me.

I've been using an H or I hook (I'd have to check) and 10 rounds is about right for 12". I've been mixing up the colors - some are brighter, some more muted.

I marched in a Columbus Day parade today in the rain and I'm looking forward to a hot shower and putting my feet up and cranking out a few more squares.

My response to ncgrammie and cluckycharms applies to you too. You would need to find a partner in that situation and each would send in your 1/2 set to me seperately if you don't live near each other is fine, and I would send back 1/2 of a set to each partner, and together you would count as 1 for the swap.

lol.. I'm sort of an "all or nothing" kind of gal.. I'll see what I can get done by the end of the week then I'll let y'all know if i'm in or out

I hadn't really noticed a Southwest thing, but figure the Chocolate border will pull it all together. For me I can always hold squares that don't seem to fit and use them in another afghan I'll make. I like granny squares and make them most since they seem nostalgic and cozy to me.

Any that the Leader doesn't seem appropriate can be sent to me.

I thought that was the point of a block swap w/ a more open color scheme, that you will get colors or patterns you may not have considered on your own, broaden your horizons and stretch your imagination, and give the finished product a more ecclectic look. I agree w/ Rancher the brown border will tie all the colors of fall together the more muted and the more vibrant. When you look at a fall scenic pic you usually have both the vibrant and more muted. I personally don't think I've ever met a color I didn't like, given the right setting. lol

Are you using that beautiful chilli pepper varagated you talked about before???? I loved that yarn, but couldn't find a gradated set to match it, and for my block I really needed colors that gradated together.

I don't have a chili pepper variegated. That must have been someone else. The yarns I remember talking about are the red and the 'autumn red'. I'm using red for rounds 8 and 9, followed by the brown for 10. The autumn red is more central, but I might not have enough of it for all the squares. I'm still mystified that I can't find the skein with the label. Given I have more than I'd thought, the completish skein must have had a label and lost it. I don't think I imagined it, but you never know about perceptions. At any rate, Rancher is right. The brown will tie them all together. Whew.

Oh I am having so much fun! I have 3 done so far, I'm sticking to mainly the standard granny square pattern but these colors give me so many choices!
