Fall Hatch! Anybody with me??

I don't think I coulda waxed it but that's a good idea for the future. It split in half! Now I know to be real careful with those dividers. Animals outside of eggs are much easier to take care of. Eggs make me nervous.

I keep obsessively checking and candling the eggs under my broody, Mamasan, I have one that I think is clear, and the other 3 are sailing right along.

Now, if only they would pip! Driving me crazy!!! I keep checking and checking...

3 of them (including the possibly clear egg) are due to hatch tomorrow or Tues, with the last due on the 3rd maybe the 4th? Do you suppose the littles are somehow coordinating their hatch times, so they all hatch together?!

Anyway, if Mamasan leaves before the last hatches I'll just put the egg in the 'bator. I can bump up the humidity for a day or so with out tooo much trouble to the others... I think. Or maybe I'll just glue mamasan to the nest until the last hatches lol. Whaddya think???

Oh no! How sad. I always feel grief ending something's life. It's sad to butcher or put an animal down deliberately but i'm prepared for it, it has purpose. It feels so different when its an accident. My sister has poultry and she said she once cracked open an egg for breakfast that had started to develop and was so upset.

Oh chicks. I spent last night out of town and won't be home until late tonight or tomorrow. For the best I think otherwise i'd be having an incubator stress meltdown at home.

Some will be born. It will happen. They'll be okay. Barred is way ahead with the brooder up and running. I'm gonna brood them in the house the first week or two and then move them to the garage. It's hard to know how big a brooder I'll need. Depends on how many hatch. I like your stock tank brooder. That's what they do at a lot of feed stores. I have a huge rubbermade bin I use in the house w/heat lamp that works well for small batches. I haven't tried 14 in it. It should be okay I think. They are so small at first. Then I move them to Rabbit cages in the garage with straw bedding and a heat lamp while they feather out.

I set mine late on the 11th so the 12th was day one. We are on lockdown and I hear peeping and some are wiggling! So excited, this is out first hatch. Bator temp and humidity look good. I go look in the windows about every hour. I chirp to them and listen for them to talk back. It's soooo cool when they do. I'll keep you all up to date. For now here's apic of the eggs.

Yay pips! So exciting. How long does it take once they pip? I've been talking to mine too. I see them move but no sounds yet. So excited so excited. I love babies!
