Fall Quilt Block Swap due October 15th

Majack I had to laugh just at the thought of your dad standing in his towel and you with a look of horror on your face. Least he had thought to put on a towel. I hope things get back to normal soon and I hope the clean up goes fast.

Just to let everyone know... I'm the one holding things up. I'm very sorry.

Not to be dramatic but I'll tell you what's been going on around here...

My parents came to visit from out of the country on the same weekend as a poultry show so that was all kinds of fun trying to juggle. Then about 5 days ago (I think) I was out working in the yard trying to deal with sick birds and I stepped on a nail. We bought this place a couple years ago and believe me when I tell you that there were nails and screws and lumber and car parts all over the place. My back is such that I cannot get around to get it all picked up by myself. So, after I pulled the nail out of my foot (through my shoe) and got the pullet I was carrying at the time situated, I came in the house and took my shoe off. I was glad to see that it had bled a little but sorry it hadn't bled more so as to wash out any germs. Being a puncture wound, I knew it would close up and seal in the germs so I took a pair of toenail clippers and trimmed around the hole as deeply as I could. Then I filled an irrigation syringe with peroxide and shot part of it into my foot. MAN DID THAT HURT!!!!! It hurt more than the nail did. I winced and grimaced for a good 10 minutes each time I did this and I did it three times. I put some antibiotic on it and covered it with a bandage and prayed over myself and went back to work. It was quite sore for 3 days and in the meantime, my ankle got really sore from limping around. Plus I'm worrying over sick chickens trying to get them well.

To make a long story short... I haven't finished my blocks. I did manage to get an extension cord brought in so I could get my machine set up and I have gathered my blocks and fabrics and am ready to sew.

So, if y'all don't mind giving me another day or so to get these done (5 are complete) then I can get these in the mail pretty soon. Otherwise, say the word and I'll drop out and you can get going on the blocks already received.

Again, I'm sorry for the delay.

Wow that just sounds so painful, it started out good, so how is the chicken?
And we will wait for your blocks thanks for letting us know
just let me know when you ship
hope all is healed and both of you are running around

Lacy Blues,
Wow you have been in the wars, I wish we could all rush over to your place with metal detectors and get rid of all these bits and pieces for you. We can wait for the blocks surely? You've always been such a good member of this group. We've got loads of other blocks another swaps now that we haven't put into quilts. We have plenty to do so we will wait for yours. I hope everyone agrees.

You said it right majack! And Lacy Blues- I know what it's like about the "junk" property. We bought ours and it was just like you say, full of nails, screws and car parts. We (mainly I as dh had to go to work) hauled off 9 loads of nothing but trash, 3 or 4 loads of scrap metal and let someone else load and haul another 2 loads of scrap metal. That was just in the first year and we are still picking stuff up! It sounds like you disinfected it good so the soreness should leave in about 10 days- that's how long it took dh's nail hole to heal:) Hey, at least you aren't using a treadle machine right now...

Thank you everybody. I will persevere!

My foot is better. In fact I can walk without a limp and it doesn't hurt at all anymore unless I step on a rock right in the same spot! After my first girl came down sick, I discovered another that evening, and another the next night and another the next morning! These four I'm saving. Two are very young, only about 2-3 months. The other two are almost ready to start laying. My very best girl that I've gotten in quite a number of years was the first one so I'm trying desperately to save her. The two very young ones seem to be all better and I put them out in a pen together in the barn. I hope they don't have a relapse. The other girl seems better tonight but I'm keeping her in the house for the night anyway. My original one is still sick. I guess I need to pray harder. I try really hard to take good care of my birds and get them what they need. My kids have their birds and they basically throw food and water at them and MY birds are the ones that always seem to get sick! It's really frustrating. I've almost come to the point where I will use some Denagard next hatching season on my breeders and once I have lots of babies on the ground from them, I'll butcher all of them and start over with the new babies. ALMOST. I have some that I really like for one reason or another and it would break my heart to kill them all.

There have been yard quality birds that have shown up sick (2 - 1 last night and 1 tonight) as well as 3 more of my Andalusians but I just butchered them all. It's very depressing. I have lots of fresh chickens in the fridge tonight!

I think a "war" sounds about right! Yesterday I bumped my shin on something while getting down low enough to put a bird in a pen. I barely bumped it but it hurt of course, because it is a shin! There was not even a mark made on the skin but is swelled up like I had a big goose egg under my skin! So I had to tie an ice bag to it and sit down for a couple hours and give myself frostbite! (almost) It's still tender and a bit swollen but nothing like it was. Sheesh! If you were to look at my lower leg from the side, you would swear my leg bone was crooked!

Thank you for your patience. I will try to get some work done on the blocks tonight after I finish "steaming" my two girls that are in the house.
