Family in Fortville, Indiana getting ready to build our first coop and raise some chickens! :-)

Hi, my name is Nichole. I live in central Indiana, about a half an hour from Indianapolis. Recently moved out onto 2 acres and have been concentrating on gardening and land prep for the last year and a half and we are ready for chickens now. I grew up in northern Indiana with grandparents and great grandparents as farmers, spent a lot of time with their chickens, turkeys, pigs and cows, but never really had a grasp of how they all were taken care of.
Just decided today on a coop design and have started the materials list, next is picking a good laying breed. Then eventually we would like to build another coop for meat production breed. It's very exciting to find a site that is so diverse in learning. This group seems great and I can't wait to dive in even further!

Hi! I'm new to the group too. I've got 9 chicks, and am finalizing a material list for my coop. They are only 2 weeks old and I had no idea just how quickly they would grow!

Forgive me if this is a repeat but I must warn you to be sure you are not within the town limits of Fortville, McCordsville or Fishers. The swarm of yuppies who have moved out to the "country" get all snarky about barnyard animals. A couple of years ago a family in Fortville went through quite a hassel over pet goats.
