Family of 4 people, 28 chicks, and 4 dogs like long walks on the beach...

Hi all!

We’ve had several chickens in the past, but lost the last batch to a coop that wasn’t predator proof. We were pretty bummed to lose Goldilocks, White Chicken and Black Chicken.

So 5 weeks ago my husband came home with 30 chicks, 2 which didn’t make it the first 12 hours.
I love taking photos of the chickens, clicker training dogs and kids, and making quilts.

Otherwise we’re in survival mode like much of the rest of the world, which for me is keeping the 4 yr old and 18 mo old away injury free and away from the hospital.

I miss a good ole forum, so I am looking forward to seeing more chickens!!

If you want to protect this new batch from predators, you need to replace that chicken wire with 1/2" hardware cloth.

Chicken wire is not good for keeping critters out.
Please get some 1/2 inch hardware cloth.

Awww I didn’t know that, thanks for the info! Luckily the floor is covered with a double layer offset from each other, but as we expand, we’ll definitely switch wires.

Thanks! It sounds like it’s not a polish chick but a Cream Brabanter. Super excited! We also have White Crested Black Polish (not sure if I got that variety name right ), and some others in order. I love the crazy hair and can’t wait to get out my real camera on pretty spring and summer days

Depends - the kids put up with fuzzy training skills better and generalizing, but the dogs just are more compliant Both are fun though. Most of the time! I’m hoping to play with some chickens and clicker training this summer. I had an old chicken who came in the house and did our agility teeter I was very sad when she got stepped on by the horse.
