Fan or no fan?

Im sure your bator has as many redundant systems as the first space shuttle Randall, they all should be built that way!!! Bill

Well Bill, ironacally, I just started posting how I built my bator on my "personal page" tonight. I've got a ways to go with lots of pics and detail (yep, I'll share

), but I think it's a good design, and it's holding 99.5 degrees +/- .2 degrees. But fans.......yes, I believe in fans to "spread the heat". Still-Air is a get-by, and I understand some can't afford or engineer the add-on, but if any way possible, get that air moving at least during pre-lockdown when development is most vulnerable.

to the OP - sorry to hijack this thread

Randall -

i am very interested to have DH help me build a similar cabinet incubator. i looked up your byc page. several questions

1. the custom-made aluminum backing. why does it have to be aluminum? any value-added? (heat radiation?) where do u hv it custom-made? (need to find similar place here where i'm at)
2. will you share the sources of your components too? (heating element, thermostat, fans, etc etc)
3. when will you complete the details? (pls don't forget the numbers - dimensions, capacities for heaters, fans, inverters/plugs)
wink.png

thanks!

Honestly, it does not by no means have to be aluminum. It was just something I threw into the design because of access to this type stuff which is common "scrap" where I work, and yes, it's value added at the same time in the form of being a "heat sink" (as in a material to help retain a constant temperature). I work for a very large HVAC company, and we have many sophisticated computer controlled sheet metal punching presses that can do the holes in a heartbeat. But, you can easily do it with a hole saw of proper size in a drill press (which, again, I realize most folks don't have access to) Plywood will work just fine.2. will you share the sources of your components too? Yes, I will try to update the page every day or so on everything I did, used, and why. (I updated some today at lunch).3. when will you complete the details? (pls don't forget the numbers - dimensions, capacities for heaters, fans, inverters/plugs)

I hope within the next week or so. It's gonna be long with lots of pics........(if there's not a limit of stuff I can put on there

Yes, I will include sizes and such.........I've got no secrets.....no patents....... nothin' but a pretty reliable home-brewed bator.

thanks!

Sorry, Kid.........I don't mean to hijack your thread as well.

Ah, yes, sorry for my mistake... So, I do increase the temp to 100.5 for the last 3 days when I turn off the fan? Or leave the fan on?
