Fanciful Frigid Fall Hatch-Along

Gonna do a full candling tomorrow on Batch A and see who we've got developing! So nervous about the Seramas, but we'll see!

We've got our Orpingtons in process of hatching right now!

They're ALL hatching day 20, I've noticed. I may try to down the temperature to 99.5 from 100 (the govee said it was under but since it's forced air I'm kinda questioning if that was the air doing that) and see if that helps them hatch more "on time" and not so early. I'll see if that'll help our rates too. But we've got 5/8 hatched on those Orps! A Chocolate, a Chocolate Silver Laced, a Jubilee, and two Lavenders have hatched. The Blue Mottled and another Lavender have pipped! That'll just leave another Jubilee to go. Though with these recent good hatch rates, I'm questioning it. But then again, we've had a fair few quitters or non-starters. Augh. Science!

I've never hatched Seramas but I've heard that they are difficult. They have a tendency to want to quit and those that hatch want to end it all. So just a heads up, don't blame yourself if your Seramas refuse to cooperate!

Thank you! They were also in the mail for a week (the post has been so hit or miss here lately) so I'm half expecting 0 development. But it's the risk we take!

Thanks so much! Our buffs (and young Lavs) quickly became our favorites (Salsa runs to us when we come out to the run!) so we HAD to get more colors. It's like Pokemon or something.

I just love Chocolate Orps, although I love chocolate everything. But chocolate, lavender, or blue orps are stunning!

Uhhh. Huh?!
11/22 (I think it’s 22 ) Sumatras are developing… and 10/12 Seramas are developing?! Whaaat?! I need to count the silkies from A again as I only candled the ones in the first batch but. I was so not expecting such good results! I think it’s 9/15 Silkies in batch A are developing. The Seramas were a week in the mail, and the Sumatras clearly had a rough trip since a couple had arrived broken (they were very well packaged so I think the mail was playing football with it along the line ). So I’m befuddled. And excited! I’ll do a full on count when we can candle Batch C but whoo! I’m so excited. I genuinely was expecting way more non-starters. Fingers crossed they keep going!
