Farm chatter

I flat out missed the first time I went LOL
There's a difference between shooting at something and shooting something.
With my luck, I"d shoot something in a non fatal place by accident, then have it get away, then feel bad about giving it a slow painful death/injuring it.

Do you hunt?

Any of you hunt?
I turkey hunt. It's pretty amazing.
I do. I've never turkey hunted, but dad has. That's awesome. I've duck, dove, Sandhill crane, goose, grouse, pheasant, and coyote hunted. I was going to go deer hunting, but the freezer was too full by time deer season rolled around. It is a bit ironic, since I dearly love all of my birds and they're all pets. But I love hunting. I provide a lot of meat for my family, which feels good. And there's so much wildlife I get to see being out there in their element. I've seen a wild Black-Footed Ferret, a Bobcat, a wild wolf, and many other more common things. Bag limits don't really matter to me. I just love the beauty of it, and the memories that are made. I've watched many stunning sunrises and sunsets with my family and friends.
I know a lot of people here don't like hunting, but it's always been very special to me.

I'm very careful to make sure anything I shoot doesn't suffer. And anything that gets away is a appreciated meal to an eagle or coyotes. I know it'll feed something, so nothing really ever goes to waste. If people didn't hunt, bird populations would grow too large and there would start to be issues. The snow geese here are a big problem. There's a spring management season where there is no snow goose limit, and this time of year it's 50 per person. We get most of our geese made into sausage, which is done by a local, family run, meat processing business. There are a lot of ducks here too. I live in an area termed "the duck factory".

I agree with this whole-heartedly.

I've gone both deer and grouse hunting before. Didn't see any grouse, (probably wouldn't be able to hit one if I did anyway) and sitting in a cold stand all day is not my idea of fun LOL. So I stick with turkey hunting. Not too cold, not that much snow, and a LOT of fun. There's nothing like watching toms strut in. I get goosebumps every time I hear a gobble, and come spring, if it moves... it could possibly be a turkey XD

This last spring I should a double bearded tom. I'll have to get pics. I mounted its tail.
