I'm getting them since they are Winter hardy apparently, & are less gamey then typical Gamefowl. I may keep 2 roosters, but set up an extra pen inside the henhouse just in case they do end up fighting badly, so I can separate them. But I can Swap roosters every once in awhile.

Yep.
Most of the time if they do get into a fight, they usually settle their disagreement without killing each other. Which a good thing to know. They're kind of like Sumatras. Death is rare in fights, but usually don't happen.

I'm slowly reducing misconceptions about this breed. I've been reading alot about them, there's so much conflicting information about them.

I think a lot of conflicting information is from individual personalities. All of the info may very well apply and it will just depend on your individual birds and their personailities.

Every bird is different, that's for sure.

Some misinformation included: Not winter hardy, only tolerates heat well.

Human aggressive.

Grumpy towards other roosters.

True information: They are Winter, & heat tolerant.

They're very friendly towards people, very dog like.


This one is a half, & half answer. They can tolerate roosters of their own kind occasionally, depending on the individual roosters. They can coexist with regular non Gamefowl roosters pretty well. They can be jerks sometimes. Best to have lots of space for the boys to get along better.

Apparently they eat more then regular chickens, so good thing I have a 60lb feeder in the mixed flock coop. They're only going to stay with the mixed flock coop temporarily until I get their own coop, & run built.

Lol!! What's really hilarious is that this is how I watched my friend pick out my first chicks for me....and it WORKED. Though a bit differently. She held her hand flat and would quickly dart her hand at the chick. She said the chicks that were startled and stepped back were pullets and the ones that held their ground were cockerels. It could have been dumb luck but I'll never forget it because they were day old chicks the guy had just pulled out of the incubator and I ended up with all pullets.

I guess it died down a couple (few? I don't know how long I've been here, lol) weeks ago and that's when Dottie invited people to kick start it again. Conversations come and go. It's normal. No worries! Granny's thread has been going for a very long time and it's REALLY REALLY slow right now compared to usual. Maybe everyone is just cold and slow from winter. lol
