A hurricane has not hit California in well over 100 years. I have not heard of any tsunamis hitting here, at least in my lifetime. The only real issues here are the fires, heat, and earthquakes here and there, but I don’t live along the fault line.
I thought one hit California last year?
 
Hurricanes I feel are more common with east coast down by North Carolina area
It has to do with the humidity and mixing of hot and cold winds, especially from the sea. You don’t see that stuff here since it’s hardly humid. Tornados are more likely to occur in the state, but there’s not a lot.

Yeah we learned about hurricanes in ap environmental science when I was in high school. Can't remember much of it but I think it was along the lines of what you said it's like the uneven heating or something I can't remember lol

The Gulf of Mexico gets all the hurricane action
