Farm chatter

We use a dog whistle for ours instead of just whistling by mouth.
Oh that's so cool! I always wanted to do tests like that with our dogs.
I think doing a field trial someday would be so fun.
Field trials are like the olympics of dog sports- they're at the point where they're no longer like a day of hunting. You need the right dog and loads of experience- not good for the beginner. Hunt tests, while not competitive, are a much more achievable goal and are much more like actual hunting.

There are loads of sports, too!
Obedience, rally, dock diving, and scent work are my favorites, and are all perfect for labs!

That's what I've heard. I think our dog Sage would place at least pretty high in a field trial. I can't think of anything she can't do. She did a 400 yard blind retrieve on a decoy that had drifted out. You couldn't see it without binoculars. She couldn't see it either, but we kept sending her back until she finally got it. It was clear across a lake! She has excellent handling, and can be worked with hand commands only or whistle commands only.
She's been on hundreds of hunts and we never lose any birds with her either. She's an incredible dog, and has an amazingly high level of trust in us.
She's great with anything. I think she'd do awesome.

My dog would probably not be ready for any field trials, she's only two and doesn't have a ton of experience. Though her handling is very good. I'd love to try one of those too.
