I make myself spend at least 30 minutes with the girls each day, and today is only 40°. It’s FREEZING (doesn’t get very much colder here ) and today I thought I would be out here a while longer since I thought it was going to be warm. Anyway, I brought out an Ice Water.... and abandoned it on the ground when I realized it was cold and the pullets are FASCINATED by the ice. They’ve never seen anything like it

I think it's because you can raise more of them in less time for less money than raising a batch of CX would cost.

This is one of the reasons I want them.

why do people keep quail? I assume their eggs are too small to be the main reason.

I think its:
You can raise more quail, meaning you can probably get a 1 CX per 3 quail (no clue if that's accurate) and in the end, end up raising more quail in place of less CX. So instead of being able to only raise 20 CX, you could raise 50 quail and end up with more meat...
I think.
I've never raised quail, this is just me thinking things through.
