Farm chatter

okay so I looked up brown leghorns on mcmurray and they're listed as "medium white" egg layers at a "good" productivity

whereas white leghorns are "large white" and "best"

hmm

I also looked up RIR and they're "large brown" "best".

the cream legbars (is that the same thing as CCL?) "medium blue" and "fair" which sounds way less good

Yes, CCL are Crested Cream Legbars and they're ok layers. All of my Leghorns have been satisfactory layers, White more so. If you want a production blue egg layer get a Whiting True Blue, they out lay the Leghorns by a mile. They're egg machines.

Tillie's eggs are definitely large, white, and she's the best (in general and at egg laying) so I think it's an accurate description. I"ve heard RIRs can have some personality issues and be aggressive, so I try to avoid them.

If you have all RIRs they're fine, but I have to agree, sexlinks and RIRs are grumpy toward other breeds.
