So the question on my thing is 'summarize why we monitor shark populations' and the obvious answer is to be like 'to know if they're dying off, how they migrate, etc' but why tf do we even monitor that
like why do we need to know
this question wasn't supposed to cause an existential crisis
but
why tf do we monitor the population of anything, let alone sharks
