LOL this past summer I was weeding at like 1-2 pm in the hottest weather bc I couldn't convince myself to get up earlier than that.

I understand that logic though...you're like oh nothing is in the way here, this would be a great spot. oops. that sounds like a great plan to fix it. what kind of trees? I have peach, plum and apple. and raspberry, blackberry (NO GOOGLE NOT THE PHONE), blueberry, muscadine (wild) and grapes... but grape production is 0.

have you tried weed mat? it's basically like a dense fabric that you put down and you cut holes in it for your plants that you actually want and the weeds die under it cause they cant get up to the sun. some of them will come up right next to your plants but it's way easier to pull weeds in that tiny area than all over your garden. and any weeds from seeds above ground can grow on top of it but they obviously wont do near as well because they'll be blocked from most nutrients so they should be smaller and easier to pull. that + mulch is amazing haha.

Oh my gosh, I would have DIED! I always try to tend the garden in the early morning or the evening. Same with the chickens in the summertime. It's just so hot here in the summer and it's stifling with the humidity. I will take frozen treats out for the girls in the afternoon, hose some dirt for them to roll around in, but that's about it, lol.

Yeah, when I initially wanted to start the mini food forest I wanted to make the area look nicer and it was a good sun area too. I just didn't even think about how compact and dead the soil was. It's looking a million times better now but it definitely stunted the progress of everything I've planted.

I have so many that I'm sure to forget something but I have multiple cultivars of some. Satsumas, a lemon (that I've never gotten a lemon from), tons of apples, plums, bunches of pears, pluots, nectarine, Asian pear, persimmon, loquat, figs, mulberries, goumi berries, autumn olives (a berry), elderberry, pineapple guavas, blueberries, blackberries, pomagranite, mayhaw, etc.
